FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Find A Veteran's
Final Resting Place?

Question:
I lost a good friend and fellow Marine in Viet Nam. Do you know of any way to find where he was buried?

Answer:
you can petition the VA National Cemetery Admin. with your request. The information you have to provide is somewhat extensive, so this could be a problem. However, you need to provide the following:

His full name with all possible spellings.
The date and place of his birth.
The date and place of his death.
The state in which your friend entered active duty status.
The branch of military he served in.

They will research your request with the above information. They do not have information on any other cemetery complex other than the VA national cemeteries, so if it's an overseas situation, let me know because there is another agency you would have to contact. Also, if he's buried in a state veteran cemetery, they would not be able to research his whereabouts. You can request information on up to ten individuals.

The address and contact infomation is as follows:

U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
National Cemetery Administration (402B)
Burial Location Request
810 Vermont Ave. N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20420
