Dear ABC News Staff Members: Recruiting Crunch World News Tonight Tuesday, February 9, 1999
Reference your http://www.abcnews.go.com/onair/worldnewstonight/transcripts/wnt_990209recruit ment_trans.html web page.
Recruiting is down, because Veterans and Retired Veterans are fathers, brothers, grandafthers, mothers, etc. Their siblings & their friends hear the constant barrage of complaints about their military service. The low pay, reduction in benefits, the broken VA claim system, the lack of health care for military retirees, etc.
You folks in the news media and the DoD are placing the blame for the military recruiting and retention problems everywhere except where it belongs. Nobody wants to admit that "BROKEN PROMISES" to the Military Retirees and Discharged Military Veterans has any bearing on the problem. The news media and the DoD doesn't want to admit that there is a difference between a Military Retiree and a Discharged Military Veteran.
WAKE-UP! Go out and talk to the military retirees and the discharged military veterans. Find out what's going on. Be objective. Get the facts. Do your job. We [the military retirees] did ours. We made it possible for you to do yours. Fix the BROKEN PROMISE ISSUES and the recruiting and retention problems will fix themselves.
